SharePinTweetThis is Part 2 of my photo essay on people sleeping in public, covering Australia and The Americas (see Part 1 on Southeast Asia). The photo project started in Southeast Asia where I saw people sleeping in plain sight on the street, apparently taking a snooze while at work. Who knew I’d find more people asleep on the job on the last two continents we visited on our trip?Sleeping in Sydney, AustraliaLunch break in First Fleet Park, Sydney, Australia; March 2014.Sleeping in Buenos Aires, ArgentinaMid-day at a café on Avenida Rivadavia, Buenos Aires, Argentina; March 2014.Sleeping in Copacabana, BoliviaRent-a-telescope man on top of Cerro Calvario, Copacabana, Bolivia; May 2014.Sleeping in Cusco, PeruSnooze break #1 at Mercado Central, Cusco, Peru; June 2014.Snooze break #2 at Mercado Central, Cusco, Peru; June 2014.Sleeping in Havana, CubaWaiting for the bus, Havana, Cuba; June 2014.Waiting for customers #1, Havana Centro, Cuba; June 2014.Waiting for customers #2, Havana Centro, Cuba; June 2014.Left: Guarding the Revolution at a museum; right: At CervecerÃa Antiguo Almacén de la Madera y el Tabaco. Reply Jennifer October 6, 2014 Some people have a lot less shame than me! The only places I’ve slept (solo) in public have been airports during long layovers. Reply Peter Korchnak October 6, 2014 Or they care less… Reply Pech October 6, 2014 I admit I do this all the time on public transit, but never at a Cafe… Why should naps only be for children or vacationers haha. Clever series! Reply Peter Korchnak October 6, 2014 Thanks, Pech. I did intend the series to be “people sleeping on public transit” but there are always a lot of people around and taking photos with them watching was just too uncomfortable. It’s easier to be sneaky on the street and, it turns out, the photos feel more interesting that way. Reply Marlynn @UrbanBlissLife October 6, 2014 Ha ha! These are fantastic!! Great captures and what a creative idea for a series. Reply Peter Korchnak October 6, 2014 Thanks, Marlynn. It did feel a little odd to photograph people in those situations but then I reminded myself they were out in public. Reply Bill Volckening October 6, 2014 LOL, the picture from Tillamook made the whole thing even better! Reply Peter Korchnak October 6, 2014 It was a Lazy Sunday. Reply Geoff (The Lazy Literatus) October 8, 2014 You do know that after doing those two posts you HAVE to create a completely separate blog totally devoted to people sleeping in public…right? Reply Peter Korchnak October 11, 2014 I do not. Tell me more! Reply Divyakshi Gupta August 15, 2017 A unique series indeed! 😀 very well documented, what perfect timing! The rent a telescope one is my favourite 🙂 I’d love to see more! 😀 I was tempted once to click a policeman on duty, never got myself to do it! hehe ReplyLeave a Reply Cancel ReplyYour email address will not be published.CommentName* Email* Website
